Finding my Fairy Tale Fix at Admont Abbey Library

So many of us are enchanted by fairy tales. The story line and the beauty of made-up places are something that takes us away from reality of everyday life. It is something so mesmerizing that you come to think it can only be invented by Disney. But what if fairy tales are based off real places and Admont Abbey Library is the foundation for The Beauty and the Beast?

Admont Abbey Library is the largest monastery library in the world and can be found in the benedictine monestary in Admont, a small town in the Austrian province of Styria. Easily visited in a day trip from Vienna, Admont is located about 2hrs from the capital.

The car ride to Admont takes you through the Gesäuse National Park, which in itself is breathtaking and worth many photographs. So, if you can make more time than a single day to visit the area, it will definitely be worth it.

If you love libraries then this is definitely the No.1 library for you to visit in the world. It is stunning, enchanting, and just like out of a fairy tale. See for your self!

HOW WE DID THE TRIP:

We went to Admont Abbey library during a long weekend in Styria. We set up our base at a beautiful castle - Schloss Kassegg - and enjoyed romantic hours there walking around the premises. One of our 3 days we spent in at the library and the adjacent museum. Dinner at one of the local restaurants is a must, too. On our last day we left in the morning to drive back to Vienna and on the way stopped by gorgeous Leopoldsteinersee as well as spent our afternoon and evening in Graz. All in all, we made the most out of three days and had a memorable and beautiful trip. And they lived happily ever after...
