City Escape: Leopoldsteinersee

Don’t get me wrong: Vienna is gorgeous and has much to offer. However, sometimes I just feel like escaping the concrete jungle with its busy people hurling the streets awaiting rejuvenation while being surrounded by untouched nature. One of the best combinations of this untouched nature is a lake nestled between mountains. Don't you agree?

I often ask people whether they’d rather live by the sea or by a mountain lake and they often reply that they would get a house in both places, which is smart, but is it realistic? For most people, probably not. So, I think if I had to chose, I’d go for the mountain lake. Though I could also live by the ocean if it was in a place with a rough moody coast where I can see the waves crashing against the rocks. I get it, it's difficult to chose. Anyways, off topic…

Back to what I wanted to tell you about: Leopoldsteinersee is located in Styria, the Austrian province known for its delicious juicy apples, beautiful landscape, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The lake can be easily visited on a day trip from Vienna and on the way back you could stay over night in Graz to enjoy scrumptious breakfast the next morning before making your drive back to city.

Y and I visited last winter and it was absolutely stunning. There was no soul in sight and we just felt like we found a small piece of heaven.

But, I'll let the photos speak for themselves...
